Two unsurpassed vintage accounts in extraordinarily rich sound
The combination of these two recordings from 1965 and 1973 respectively makes another irrefutable contribution to the case that Karajan was the finest ever conductor of Strauss; what's more the sound on both is so good that they hardly need remastering.

A bit of a misfire, actually
Despite Karajan's immense reputation in Strauss, this Don Quixtoe from 1965 is anemic.
Eloquent & Vivid Don Quixote
Karajan recorded Don Quixote many times but this one with Fournier must be the finest along side his EMI recording with Rostropovich.
The Best Quixote? -- Close
This is a terrific disc from the DG Originals series featuring noted Straussian Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic.
